Past, Present & Future

The first year, 1998, the project provided backpacks filled with school supplies to over 365 children living in
Columbus shelters. In 1999, the Tom Fennessy Back-to-School Project became a 501 (c)(3) organization and provided backpacks to 580 children. Each year the project continues to grow. In 2005, we distributed 4,700 backpacks to needy children. In 2008, we were able to help approximately 7,100 children enter school with a new backpack filled with needed school supplies.  This figure is up from 6,400 backpacks that we were able to provide
in 2007.

This project gives children the opportunity to enter school on the first day with dignity, equipped with the school supplies they require. These efforts are made possible through donations from organizations, corporations, individuals and foundation grants. The Tom Fennessy Back-to-School Project, is an all volunteer, non-profit organization serving the Central Ohio community.
